After doing a presentation at a Women’s Wellness event recently, the thing that struck us most was the number of people who said “Why don’t we know this? Why isn’t this taught in schools? If I would’ve only know this sooner…” The lack of education on women’s health and fitness, especially during and after pregnancy is astonishing. As women we are taught to either be ashamed of what’s happening to our bodies or just to accept it as normal and get on with life. If someone was wheezing after running or had a pain in their knee they would go to the doctors and get it sorted. There would be no embarrassment or doubts as to what should be done. But the same person pees themselves during their run or has a feeling of vaginal heaviness and it’s just “the way things are”. No! It isn’t normal and it isn’t something you should have to live with. So many women don’t even know where to start to find the answers. That’s where we come in.
